What if I accept an offer and need to cancel (forfeit)?
Updated
When you accept a signing in Jot™, you’re confirming you’re able to complete it. If something unexpected comes up and you can no longer complete the signing, please forfeit it in the Jot™ platform as soon as possible so the order can be offered to another notary. Forfeiting promptly helps minimize delays for the signer and escrow officer.
When should I forfeit a signing?
Forfeit a signing if you’ve accepted it but can no longer complete it for reasons like:
An unexpected emergency
A major or unavoidable scheduling conflict
Vehicle trouble or another issue that makes completing the appointment impossible
If you know you won’t be able to complete the signing, don’t wait—the sooner you forfeit, the sooner another notary can be assigned.
Tip: If you’re not sure you’ll be available, it’s better to decline the offer than accept it.
When should I not forfeit?
Please do not use the forfeit feature to:
Hold an order while deciding whether it fits your schedule
Accept an order with the intention of rescheduling the signer
Transfer the signing to another notary
Once you accept a signing, you’re responsible for completing it unless the order is officially reassigned through Jot.
Here's how to forfeit a scheduled appointment
1. Locate the signing you would like to cancel in your notary dashboard.
2. From your notary dashboard or after clicking into the signing details, click the three dots in the top right-hand corner.
3. Click the button that reads "Forfeit Signing."
4. Click the button that reads "Forfeit" to confirm you'd like to cancel the signing.
Please note: Forfeiting a signing for a valid reason, such as those listed above, will not impact your notary rating. A signing should only be forfeited when unexpected circumstances prevent you from completing an accepted signing. Repeated misuse of this process may impact your rating.
5. Once confirmed, the signing is immediately released so it can be assigned to another notary.
